Maryland permit practice test 1

Twenty-five questions on the basics every new Maryland driver needs: STOP and YIELD signs, steady and flashing signals, the 3 to 4 second following distance, right-of-way at intersections, school buses, emergency vehicles, seat belts, the .08 alcohol limit, the learner's permit age and supervisor, and what to do after a crash. Five questions show sign pictures. Every answer comes from the Maryland Driver's Manual (October 2026). The real MVA knowledge test has 25 questions, you need 88 percent (22 correct) to pass, and you have 20 minutes, so this set uses the same format: 25 questions, 22 to pass, 20 minutes.

A sample question

You are turning left at an intersection with a green light. A car is coming straight through from the opposite direction. What should you do?

  • Yield to the oncoming car and turn when it is safe
  • Turn first because the green light gives you the right-of-way over oncoming cars
  • Flash your headlights and go
  • Honk so the other driver slows down

Marked when you take the test; the explanation appears in your review.
