Indiana practice tests
The Indiana BMV knowledge exam is a computer-based multiple-choice test taken at a BMV branch, in two parts: traffic laws and safe driving, and road signs. You must score 80 percent or higher on each part separately, and the BMV does not publish how many questions the exam has. You can get a learner's permit at 15 if you are enrolled in a BMV-licensed behind-the-wheel driver education course, or at 16 without it. Our free Indiana practice has 6 traffic-laws tests of 20 questions (16 correct to pass) and 6 road-signs tests of 10 picture questions (8 correct to pass). Those sizes are our own practice sizes, each scored at 80 percent like the real exam, and every answer comes from the Indiana Driver's Manual.
- 20 questions
- 16 to pass

| Knowledge exam | Computer-based multiple-choice exam in two parts: traffic signs, and traffic laws and safe drivingThe BMV says the exam is based on the Indiana Driver's Manual and is divided into two sections, one on traffic maneuvers and one on the types of traffic signs. Neither the BMV pages nor the manual gives the number of questions. Our practice uses our own sizes: 6 traffic-laws tests of 20 questions and 6 road-signs tests of 10 picture questions. | Indiana BMV: Knowledge Examchecked 2026-11-01 |
